Breaking the Cycle

I am told on a regular basis that doing the work of healing is simple but not easy. I was blessed to have a stable home life as a child. It was my saving grace. For many people who have endure childhood trauma home life was not something to look forward to. In fact U.S. ChildWelfare‘s 2010 report states that “parents acting alone or with another person, were responsible for 79.2 percent of child abuse or neglect fatalities”. Fatalities. That particular piece of information is not even talking about children who endure abuse. The unfortunate truth is that abuse goes on unreported and there is still a level denial ever present in society at large.*

What is the solution? Education. Awareness. Speaking out. Telling the secrets.

What is the answer? Making changes, breaking the cycle and sharing what we learn. Where there are children there are caretakers. This book is filled with information to stop repeating the dysfunction and give future generations a chance at happy home lives. I am not a parent yet but hope that I can continue on the new path that both my parents started by choosing to create change.

Finally, after the arduous task of writing specific individuals without gaining agreement to freely distribute articles, we have found an online resource for free articles. Of course, this would probably been much easier if there were more than one of me to brain storm – well maybe I wasn’t listening. I suppose, if there were a staff of more than one body, eventually there would have been some discussion surrounding research sources outside of academic library access systems. Better now than never and my gratefulness is no less. The articles are from a wide array of perspectives; which are not limited to clinical dissection.

I have taken the liberty to do a few searches … dissociative identity disorder , dissociation , post traumatic dissociation, PTSD , childhood trauma , ritual abuse , cult abuse , developmental trauma , traumatized children , marriage and ptsd … Or for a broader spectrum treatment of trauma or trauma recovery

One of the more effective ways is to find a particular person of interest in the field such as Peter A Levine, PhD or a particular school of thought such as the relationship between mind-body and trauma. From those types of searches you may explore either articles directly from the person you are researching or find others who mention him/her. Finding rabbit trails is what I am attempting to avoid. We can all go type in a name to a search engine and have to decipher what information is relevant.

During the course of finding this location I have located a few other resources I hope to check out and bring back here for your use. Hopefully this shift in locating free articles will be more fruitful in mining useful DID Sources.

Healing Together 2012

An Infinite Mind (AIM) has opened registration for Healing Together 2012! It seems like Healing Together 2011 was just a few months ago. Yes indeed, a very cliché statement but these words come from a place of truth not misunderstanding or misguided perceptions of reality.

Time happens one second at a time. Life happens just as quickly. Consider taking the time to notice the moments that make a difference. Attending the Healing Together Conference is an opportunity become part of something fantastic and instants that will leave lasting impressions. Think about how many of us feel isolated in our multiplicity or isolated in being the support for someone who is dissociative and envision the infinite ways of being and becoming whole. Not whole as in singleton but as a person no longer scattered in fear and lost in trauma but being as you were meant to be . . . a precious jewel like no other.

Ask yourself what do we do with jewels? We make earrings, rings, tie clips, necklaces, belt buckles, or we shine them up and keep them warm in our pockets close to our hearts. At some point people with trauma history were not treated as precious jewels but were tossed around and mistreated like an old unmatched sock. Some of us have learned that we are jewels and what we are made of while other of us have not realized our priceless value. Some of us have figured out how to treat others as jewels while other of us did not know that unmatched socks had lost a part of itself. What better place to learn than together with people who have been there and are striving for living life differently – the opportunities and depth of healing are infinite.

My hope is that everyone attending be open to the experience of gaining a stronger sense of self and understanding of others. As long as we are able, this will be an event my husband and I attend every year. I hope, for myself, that each year I can share more of my journey through life. We hope that sharing our lives will be continue to be encouraging to others. Last year we learned a lot about ourselves through kind words shared from those around us. (Thank you all again!) Sometimes the mere fact of seeing others like yourself is a profound healing factor.
