Tell us a little about yourself.
I was first diagnosed with DID at the age of 17, which was about three and a half years ago. At the time I thought I was the host among three other parts. Boy, was I wrong. Since then I have learned that I am merely one of the many parts (who currently number sixteen) who are a part of my mind and body’s system. I have been in and out of the hospital numerous times, with the last time being a four and a half month stay. It seems that that was what the doctor should have ordered all along because since then I’ve been doing much better. Instead of being a highly functional person with DID who clocked in and out of therapy while living a full speed life so I didn’t have to look back on or acknowledge my past, which caused me to go months at a time seeming well until in less than five minutes I was in major crisis, I am now learning how to live a life that balances my need to be able to live my present life with my need to return to my past in order to continue healthily living my present life. Since being out of the hospital this last time I have created a support website for people with DID. It is not quite ready for public access, but when it is I will have the creator of this website post a link to it if she sees it fit.
